Wildlife Safari

Rajasthan encloses some of the finest sanctuaries and national parks of India. Owing to its vast size and latitudinal variations (sea level to over 1,700 m), the state encompasses varying terrain from the semi-evergreen forests of Mt Abu to the almost barren or dry scrub grasslands of the Thar, from the deciduous thorn forests of the Aravalli to the wet marshes of Bharatpur where numerous wildlife species and avifuana make their home. You will be amazed how the scenery changes with every single kilometre.

Wildlife Safari in Rajasthan

Rajasthan offers numerous wildlife safari destinations such as the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Darrah Sanctuary, Sajjangarh Sanctuary, Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary, Desert National Park, Mount Abu Sanctuary, SitaMata Sanctuary and Tal Chapper Sanctuary.

But noted among the many sanctuaries are the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Keoladeo Ghana National Park), Sariksa Tiger Reserve and Ranthambhore National Park. Ranthambore and Sariska are known worldwide for their tiger population. To explore the thriving wildlife, one needs to take the help of safaris – elephant safari, horse safari, tiger safari, bird safari or a jeep safari. Rajasthan takes pride in being one of the few remaining places where several endangered species make their home such as the great Indian bustard, blackbuck and Indian gazelle.

Ranthambhore or Sariska are two best destinations for tiger safari. Apart from tigers, plenty of wild animals roam the forest such as sloth bear, wild boar, chinkara, porcupines and jackals, leopard, jungle cat, marsh crocodile, sambhar, chital, nilgai, gazzelle, boars, mongoose, indian hare, monitor lizards and a large number of birds. Sariska is located in the woodsy part of Aravalli and noted for its population of rare breed of tigers, leopard, sambhar, nilgai, wild dog, and chinkaras.

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is popular as a bird safari destination. This world famous bird park has been listed among the Word Heritage Site by UNESCO. Indigenous bird population fills the park including cormorants, spoon bills, storks, egrets, herons, pelicans and ibis. In winter, the park is house-full with large numbers of exotic migratory birds from Afghanistan, Central Asia, Tibet as well as Siberian Cranes from Arctic, Graylag Geese from Siberia and bar headed Geese from China. Over 500 species of birds both local and migratory take shelter in Rajasthan.

Elephant safari is another popular means for exploring wildlife. The massive beast will get you in close quarters with wild animals and its slow gait ensures that you pick up every sound and sight along the way. If not, Jeep Safari is also available. It is the most convenient as it is fast and the easiest way to get in close quarters with animals.
