Camel Cart Safari Tours

“As a matter of fact, an ordinary desert supports a much greater variety of plants than does either a forest or a prairie,” writes world renowned professor Ellsworth Huntington. If you think the desert is inhospitable and monotonous, you will find yourself surprisingly mistaken in Thar. You will come across many sights and sounds you’ve never experienced elsewhere. Evenings will be particularly romantic as you watch the sun slowly sinking in the desert. And at night you will sleep under clear skies but not before a meal close to the warmth of a bonfire. As you head to your destination, you will pass many forts and palaces, traditional villages in distant places inhabited by natives in multi-hued skirts and tawdry turbans. And it serves as an opportunity to learn of their culture first-hand. Also, sun-bashing the shifting sands will create memory that will remain with you forever.

Depending on the package on offer, Thar safaris range for a day or sometimes a week while some even run for a month. The most preferred routes are the areas around Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Khimsar and Osian. If you’d rather not ride on the humpy, smelly, tall, lanky camels then there is a more comfortable alternative, camel-cart safaris. Camel Carts are a common mode of transportation for natives in rural Rajasthan today. If you ever make it to Jaipur, you will see the roads cluttered with them brought by natives from surrounding areas probably by those coming for marketing household needs. It is a simple means of transport; the cart is attached to the camel and the camel is made to pull it. This way the camel transports people and their luggage from one village to another. Though simple, it has the feel of a rustic charm and that is why it is attractive to tourists. Besides, riding on a camel is challenging as it sways profusely. Plus, it puts a lot of pressure on the leg. But camel-cart safaris will let you stretch your legs and you don’t have to worry about the sway. And it shelters you from heat and rain. So it is a better option than the camel safari which exposes you to the direct rays of the sun.

For days, you will venture past sands and sometime pebbled road till you reach your destination. For sure, it will be an activity to remember.
