Jalore Tour

A major pilgrimage sector since ancient past, Jalore is accelerating into a tourist hub today for its scenic beauty and rustic surroundings. It is located in southwest Rajasthan sharing boundaries with the districts of Barmer, Pali, Sirohi and Banaskantha of Gujarat. It is an upcoming town with a rich past, interesting cultural heritage and numerous attractive sightseeing destinations. It is in essence a typical Rajasthani town but with all the hustle and bustle missing.

Travel To Jalore

A place where one can enjoy the unspoiled and friendly atmosphere of rural Rajasthan. In ancient times it was known by the name of Suvarnnagri (Golden Mount) due to its prosperity especially under King Udayasimha. It fell to the Mughal Emperor Akbar for a short period but reclaimed by the Rajputs again till the Indian independence. Jalore is famous for its granite industry and therefore called 'Granite City'.

 

Tourist Attractions
Jalore Fort: A major landmark of the city known throughout history as Sonagir (Golden Mount). It was one of the nine so called Maru castles built by the Parmaras in the 10th century. It stands on a rocky outcrop 336m (1,200 ft) high with a commanding view of the town. It takes about two hours to reach the Fort from the base. It is well fortified with a wall and each of the bastions has cannons mounted on them.

 

Topekhana: Originally intended as a Sanskrit school, it was later converted into a cannon foundry. Though in a state of decline today its glorious past can still be glimpsed from traces of splendid architecture and intricate facade along with tastefully carved ceiling and colonnades. It was built by Ujjain King Vkramditya as a "sansrut Pathshala" for educating his public.

 

Sunda Mata Temple: A highly revered place. The temple is located in the Aravalli at a height of 1220 m above sea level. Lacs of devotees from Gujarat and Rajasthan come to pray to Goddesses Chamunda Devi to whom the temple is dedicated.

 

Jain Temples: These are a group of temples dedicated to four Jain Tirthankars; Adinatha, Shantinath, Parsvanatha and Mahavira. It was constructed in 8th century and since then has become a major pilgrimage centre for the Jain sect. The oldest temple is Adinath dedicated to the first Tirthankar.

 

Lohanagarh of Jaswantpura: About 70 kms away here is a lush green surrounding located in a mountain valley. One can go on a camel or elephant ride here to see wildlife such as tigers, boars, bears, monkeys, etc.
