Hanumangarh Tours

The Indus Valley Civilization has captured the imagination of all. And Hanumangarh was once a part of this advanced 5000-year-old civilisation. This city is for history buff! It is located in northern Rajasthan on the banks of River Ghaggar about 400 km from Delhi. Earlier the city was part of the kingdom of Bhatti Rajputs and known as Bhatner during this time. Subsequently, it was re-christened Hanumangarh by King Shardul Singh who annexed it on Tuesday (the day of god Hanuman).

Tour to Hanumangarh

The excavations in 1951 at Kalibanga and over 100 other places unearthed significant interesting artefacts such as human skeleton, unknown scripts, stamps, coins, utensils, jewellery, toys, statues, wells, bathrooms, fort, streets, markets etc. All these findings reflect the great advancement reached at that age. Most of the remains are on display at a Museum in Kalibanga and National Museum in Delhi.

Bhatner Fort: It was constructed in the year 1295 by Bhupat, son of king Bhati of Jaisalmer. Timur in his autobiography wrote he has never seen a fort as strong as this. It stands towering on the banks of Ghaggar.

Indus Valley Artefacts: At Sangaria Museum, numerous rare artefacts excavated from the Indus valley Civilizations are on display. The 15th century statue of Trithanka Shantinathand is a must-see. About 20 kms away is the Kalibanga Museum where many items from the Harrapan Civilization are exhibited. To make your visit more interesting, explore the ruins of Kalibanga and Bhatner Durg, which has strong imprints of Harappa and Mohanjodaro culture.

Gurudwara: This is a glistening structure in gold and white. It was raised in the year 1730 in nearby Nohar town to mark the historic visit of Sri Guru Govind Singh, the founder of Khalsa Panth and the 10th sikh guru. Jod-mela takes place every month on 'Amawasya Day' at this grudwara.

Mata Bhadrakali Temple: This grand temple is the venue of a mela celebrated on Chaitra 8 and 9. The mela draws in pilgrims even from Punjab and Gujarat. It was built during the reign of Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali.

Gogameri: It is the most important of all the local festivals. It is held 120 kms from Hanumangarh. Pilgrims from various states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, from every caste and religion, come to worship Gogaji "The God of Snakes". The temple has a Hindu and Muslim priest, a rare occurrence in the rest of the country.

Apart from these, don’t miss the old Brahmani Temple inside the Kalloor Fort in Pallu village. Other fairs observed here that will give you the local flavour are Shila Peer Mela held every Thursday in which a stone Shila Mata is worshiped by Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims. It is believed that milk and water offered cures all types of skin diseases. The Shaid Baba Sukha Singh ji, Mahitab Singh ji Yadgari Mela is held annually in remembrance of the saint.
