It was built for the East India Railways by the British firm Kitson, Thompson and Hewitson in the year 1855. After a gap of 142 years, the Fairy Queen came back from being a mere eye-pleaser at the Railway Museum in Delhi and tooted and chugged again from February 1, 1997.
Seats at the train are limited to just 60 but they are first-class meaning utmost comfort. The Fairy Queen will make you feel like a Maharaja on a royal journey. To attend to your gastronomic pangs, there is a pantry car where one can dine in style by tucking into delicious food fit for the king. The large glass windows of the train ensure an enchanting view of rural countryside, forts and palaces and the unique and beautiful engine bogey of the train. The train starts its journey on every 2nd and 4th Saturday, in the months of October to March from Delhi Cantonment Railway station.
First stop is at the picturesque town of Alwar in Rajasthan from where guest are transferred to Heritage Hotel Sariska Palace for overnight accommodation. Arrangements are also made for exploring the Sariska Tiger Reserve in a jeep.
